August 28 Wildwood Isn't Like It Used To BeWe've been going to the famous Wildwood, NJ for years now. Sometimes we make it a full week vacation and other times we make it a weekend. For the longest time, we stayed at the Lampost Motel. It was a very clean little motel on 21st street. The owners were from Florida and we chatted a few times on email. In January 2005, they sold the place because of rising taxes. So, we were forced to find a new place. Last summer we spent a week at the Sans Souci Motel. We told the owners about our concerns and they agreed its not easy down there to survive because of the pressure from condominiums. They also said that they would hold onto their place as long as they could. I guess one winter was long enough because we were just down there this weekend staying with family at Montego Bay and guess what, there are now condos sitting where the motel once stood. That's very disappointing. Wildwood board members are probably thinking that this is great for the community because of the tax money being received. They're not realizing that this is hurting their community. Let's face it; most of the jobs down there are for 3-4 months only. How can these people afford $400k+ homes? It also hurts tourists as it costs on average $1500 for a room a week. Tourists can go to other beaches for less than that price.
Anyway, enough of my rant. I'll be posting the few picks I took online over the next few days. |
